Once completed, the Balaclava Island Coal Export Terminal Project will:
- Support Queensland's economic development
- Deliver significant infrastructure investment in the region
- Provide opportunities for local businesses
- Provide opportunities for local and regional employment - peak of 800 jobs during construction, about 100 jobs during on-going operations
- Meet the future requirements of people living in a growing state.
More specifically, the project will:
- Allow for ships to export up to 35 million tonnes of coal per annum to global markets
- Alleviate congestion at existing coal terminals at Gladstone, Dalrymple Bay and Abbot Point
- Increase the volume of exports to global markets from Queensland’s Bowen and Surat Basins
